Over the Spring 2024 semester, we worked with local non-profit Friends of the Rappahannock to help promote their core message of restoration, education, and advocacy. Following our conversations with staff at the organization, we sought to produce infographics, picture posts, and videos aimed at educating those in and out of the Rappahannock community about the river and how they can help to restore it.
The primary goal for our social media campaign was to increase information dissemination and outreach for fundraising programs. A large focus of our social media campaign followed FOR’s request to produce media content for Give Local Piedmont, a fundraising competition in early May. Our campaign also sought to evaluate the story and voices of those the Rappahannock affects.
Key to our messaging were three main pillars: restoration, education, and advocacy. Each post our 6 total posts followed one these pillars. Through infographics, picture posts, and videos we looked to educate those in and out of the Rappahannock community about the river and how they can help to restore it.

More Than a River
Caption: To highlight the dates when FOR holds tree planting workshop events. The importance of this is to get those interested in volunteering an opportunity to get out and spend a day planting trees. Another importance of this post to help promote how planting trees helps protects the Rappahannock river and watershed

Make a Splash
Caption: the goal of the oral story post is to help promote the oral story videos that are featured on the website. The message of this post would be to show what the Rappahannock River personally means to the Piedmont community. Another message would be to show that it’s more than a river and that it actually means something to the community.
